If you have signed the pledge to refuse to participate in layoffs at GW, terrific! Thank you. Now what?
Organize within your department or program. Individually ask your colleagues to sign the pledge, and collectively bring a demand to your chair asking that they refuse to participate in firing or furloughing anybody.
2) ADD A SIGNATURE LINE
We’re asking all signatories to add this to their email signature:
I am a signatory of the Faculty Association’s pledge to conscientious objection to layoffs. It commits me to challenging, impeding, and disrupting any and all of the layoffs of faculty and staff with which the university administration threatens the well-being of GW and of my colleagues and coworkers. Please consider signing the pledge.
Make a statement about why you signed and how you are using your power to oppose layoffs. Post your testimonial to the GWUFA website here.
4) CHAIRS: MAKE YOUR INITIATIVE PUBLIC
If you are a chair, you have the power to:
- bring a resolution before your colleagues for department-wide endorsement,
- organize a joint statement signed by other department chairs,
- and make administrative leadership, including your deans, aware of your resolve on the question of layoffs.
We are asking you to pursue any or all of these options, do so publicly, and work with GWUFA to amplify your bold stance. Please post your resolutions, statements, and initiatives at this link.
