Statement from American Studies

The faculty of the Department of American Studies oppose GW layoffs. We understand GW’s current economic troubles, but believe the administration has other tools available to deal with them. Namely, it could increase the payout from our nearly $2 billion endowment; it could draw on the $300 million line of credit it recently secured; or it could tap its reserves of more than $200 million. Like our colleagues in the Department of History, we “stand in solidarity with all our co-workers at GW and demand an end to the layoffs.”
